Okay...I was with everyone here when I first heard they were planning on making a live action Dragonball movie...I'm a big DB fan, I love it, always have, always will...And you know what...? The movie actually wasn't that bad...I was pleasantly surprised with it...Mind you I'm not saying the movie was the best movie ever made...not even close, but you know what...? It was actually "Surprisingly good"...

What no one is keeping in mind is that this is an "alternate reality" story reset...Look at some of the animated movies...They didn't take place in the "continuum" of the actual show...Were they bad...? No...They were just a stand alone story...one of those "alternate universes" Trunks was talking about when he came to the past, to change the future of that particular world...

That's what this movie is..."What if the characters were in different situations"...This world instead of a world where there are Dinosaurs still running around...

It was a valiant effort...Justin Chatwin I thought did a great job playing the somewhat silly fighting genius that we all know as Goku...Though true enough if you look at it, it's almost like they merged the Goku and Gohan characters together into one character...

The characters as you watch the movie are recognizable for who they're supposed to be...That's saying allot if you ask me...

I'm not saying there aren't problems...There are, but you know what...? For the budget and the time they took to make, it's "A valiant attempt wrapped in WIN"...

I'm seeing all these "this movie sucks" comments in the same posts as "I haven't seen the movie yet"...Well you know what...? That's the same argument and comments I hear from people that say the actual Dragonball Z Anime sucks...They haven't seen it, or they've only seen bits and pieces out of context *cough, trailers/teasers* and thus don't have the full view of what is actually so good about the show...

I won't drag this on any longer cause I know people are going to complain about this post, but I was on the "Don't make this movie" train, but now I want to see a sequel...I want to see more sequences like in those "finding a Dragonball mental images" that Chatwin's Goku got when he would find a new Dragonball...(If you don't know what I'm talking about go rent the movie at least if you're just totally against the idea of feeding the company money for making the movie)

Potential is there and I, personally, want to see more...

Go out and at least see it before you decide...And do try to remember that this is not the actual Dragonball world...It's the characters living another life in "OUR WORLD"...

Sadly from the start, the makers never intended to make it an "alternate" but a "better version," and then they used the "open mind" thing like on homosexuality to make look this movie good. But at the end, it was all a big fraud; and they knew it, they just considered we fans would be so stupid like to pay for anything that has the Dragonball name on it no matter what is the quality, and sadly some did and those are not true fans.

If you like this movie, OK for you, but we will never love it.

They made NO effort at all. They could have done so much better...if you can't use the almighty special effects of today, just use a good original story. And they had that, but they still made an awful movie. That wasn't Dragon Ball...

There are many ways to describe this movie, but I wouldn't use "Surprisingly good" even in the moments of severe drunkenness or insanity.
I'm glad you liked it, but we, the fans, are disgusted.

That was a lame excuse for what they actually did. The targeted audience was not the fans, they wanted to earn as much as possible from this project so they targeted the general public. And the final result is this plot. A terrible, typical Hollywood plot, without actual depth. The universe shown in that movie is not a DB universe and that is painfully clear to any fan.
I'm sorry, but you're rather naive if you came to such conclusion.

Well I didn't come here to argue, point fingers, or drop insults around...Though I am a little sad to see this sort of closed minded negativity...If you think I am naive because of the way I view a piece of work then that's your prerogative, however as a test run I still maintain it wasn't nearly as bad as it could have been..."surprisingly good" is just another way to put "it didn't suck as bad as i thought it would", Valiant effort=at least the characters were for the most part recognizable...Anyhow all I know is that me and all, and yes I do mean all, of my personal Dragonball loving friends actually managed to enjoy it, and we all see the possibility that with a larger budget and more time it could be better...At least we gave it a chance...Not like we had anything better to do, and it never felt like a waste of time...So if you don't want to even try watching it I can't make you...However being that way is exactly why more people aren't Dragonball fans...I, again, can understand being hesitant to spend money on a movie that you probably won't like, but that's what HBO or some other movie channel is for...I'd be willing to bet that even the most die hard of you "I'll never watch it" people will see it at some point before the world ends one way or another...If for nothing but morbid curiosity...And if you don't enjoy it at all, there's nothing wrong with that...Though the fact that you are going to talk down to a fan that did, well that, I think, speaks something about the posters character...I'll leave you in peace from this point on...I said what I wanted to say, take it or leave it...Have fun guys...

You are naive because you believe in that "alternate reality" statement. I can believe that you bought that crap from the movie staff.
I know what you meant by "surprisingly good". And I'm telling you again that I or any other fan would never use it to describe this movie. But I accept that this movie was "surprisingly good" to some people.

Erm...nope, if it weren't for the names I wouldn't been able to recognize any...well maybe some, but I would think of it as a parody.
Like I said, I'm glad that you and your friends are able to enjoy trashy movies, but to some other people that would be just a waste of their time, money and nerves.
A lot of people from this forum did watch this movie, you can find the reviews. There are also a lot of other critics, which opinion I respect so I've seen and heard enough to loose any desire to watch it.
Because of the people like you Hollywood is able to continue it's production of terrible movies. At least in this case the profit didn't follow (I wonder why). And I'm glad, because, in this case, people all over the world sent a clear message. And if they are smart at all, then maybe they'll get our message and learn from their mistakes.

ALTERNATIVE REALITY????? Common, dude....

how can you compare DBE to those DB anime movies??? the problem in DBE is not the fact that they changed the story continuum (that was obvious)... the problem was that they changed the entire characters personality, looks and story ORIGINS(Like putting the powerfull sayan race enslaved by the Nameks..lol)... A story is defined by its characters... if you put Goku a fucking Emo, he is no longer Goku and its no longer a DB story!!! An Emo, horny teen is the opposite of what Goku is... and im not even go to comment the other characters!!!! In the DB anime movies we do not see Goku cheating, or afraid of fights or an hentai....etc. COMMON... is Chatwin Goku your hero???? you should be ashamed!!


Plus if you are a DB fan how can you be pleased with such crap movie?? terrible special effects, terrible fight choreography (that stuff is noT even martial arts and the ki looks like puffs of smoke when it should be pure energy.... maybe because now DB is like the avatar... AIRBENDING THECNIQUES.. ), shit acting, and the final fight??? what a joke... in the movie "" The One"" by James Wong, the guy made a final battle with almost 15 MINUTES!!!!

The film "Race to witch montain" is way more serious and well performed than DBE, and that movie is a DISNEY one Just because of that, DBE complettely humiliates the DB franchise... why not make a movie like the Dark knight or iron man??? DB deserve better... much much better

DBE even sucked for it's own movie. Yes I saw it. Take off all the presets of Dragon ball and it still sucks. The actors were crappy and the plot was compressed too much. Although the plot is good (obviously because it's an actual DB plot), again taking out the DB concept, it still had a compressed story that didn't flow.

DBE seemed more of a Chinese movie which is bad because that's not what it was supposed to convey. It was more Street Fighter type and didn't have too much going for it.

Look Uriel, your opinion, your life, your thing, but I've been hearing this "close minded" thing so many times, and it really worries me to see people misusing it everyday and totally misunderstand it...

If there is a thing that can make this world collapse and become totally close minded that is that "you've got to be oooopen miiiiiiinded" overdoing...

Why? - because somewhere in the past there was a man who made drugs which spread very quickly around the world, and he was like: "drugs are awesome thing! its just a matter of time when they'll be legalized".
Unfortunately today more and more people think like that and they believe that people have to be "open minded" and should legalize drugs, that IS hypothetically being "open minded", but is that REALLY BEING OPEN MINDED AND SMART? - HELL NO!

Same thing with everything in life...Being open minded is when you are opened to everything AS LONG as that something is not harming yours or somebodies elses rights of speech/freedom/choice and not endangering you or someone else...
Therefore, when you become so "open minded" to actually start breaking even your own principles, morals and such, trust me then you are a living definition of a term CLOSE MINDED....cause you're so close minded to not realize how close minded you are while you think you're being open minded...

I know I said this all many times already but I just like repeating stuff, maybe somebody eventually learn something...

What's interesting in this case is not that we're being considered close minded, I mean, he's not the first one who came to such ridiculous conclusion.

My thoughs too.... and i do not know if you guys noticed, but the DBE supporters are bashing DB (the anime) to defend the movie... i mean WTF??? They actually prefer that american teen love crap to the real DB Youtube is full of those assholes!! And they dare to call theirselves DB fans???? What a joke...
