Who wins people. Who really wins....let's look at the facts.
L, with no info on th way Kira works, managed to get his hands on key evidence, and not only that, back Light into a corner several times.
Near had everything given to him, from the info on DN, to the fake rule thing, down to the last sacrifice by Mello that let him make sure his final plan was ready. Near was just one lucky bastard. Genius by circumstance.
HOWEVER, if in L's position, Near would have won. Why? Near was much more ruthless than L. Capable of going much further. That said, when L had Light and Misa in jail, he let them go...even though he had suspicions they were guilty
Near would have never let them go. Near would not have let the other members of HIS investigation lead his judgment. he would have kept them there, and when her finally got the Note Book, Light would have lost. Higushi would have spilled the beans. Furthermore, there is chance Light would have died before that. Rem would have killed hi,.

Hmm well let's see who knows who would win? Remember Near said he was inferior to L but WITH MELLO he was able to surpass him. Combined they could take out light. L was vastly superior to Near or Mello seperate. L had no info on the death-note and was able to gain evidence and nearly defeat Kira. Near would not have won though since if not for Light, Misa, and Rem Higushi would never be caught.
It was thanks to Misa's and light's plan that stopped Higu. Rem would NOT kill Light simply because she would have Higushi continue killing till Light and Misa were free.

Point taken. But you see, Near was much more ruthless, and I believe, catching Higushi was a matter of time for him, or for L. The man was an idiot. Easy pickings when compared to Light.
The whole point I base this on, is that Near, if the same situations would present themselves until the confinement of Light and Misa, would have ended it. However, for example, Near would never have agreed to show his face to the NPA members. That right there would have repercussion on light as a suspect.

True, but while Near is more ruthless that means you can make more mistakes and this is the stage where Light had shinigami on his side willing to die to save Misa.Explain how would he catch Higushi explain? He was caught due to Light and there was no other way unless he freed Misa who in turn would meet up with Rem. The latter is the one that helped Misa figure out Higushi was Kira and than with REM's help she proved to L that Higushi was Kira.
So explain how Near would find out Higushi was Kira and if in that situation he would have to reveal his face. Point is let's say he decides to write somone's name down 13 days later Rem kills Near and the 13 day rule is proven real. If Near never agreed to show his face the group would not work with him.

Near would have easily brought it down to the eight members of the company Yotsuba.
After that, and if needed, Near would have them all trailed and followed. L was taking those measures. He might not have arrived at the conclusion as soon, but he would have got there, just as L alone would have got there
L was compromised, but both his connection to the NPA, and to Light. L made a mistake Near would never have made.

Explain how!!!!? You can't just say he can that's not fair that's not debating. Near could never figure it out without Rem and Misa. Of course he could communicate with Yotsuba and bug all of their vehicles and listen to Higushi speaking to Rem but that could be considered insanity. Light would kill Near and get the 13 day rule proof of existence. Than Light would be L and eventually he would make a new world.

And when he did, Rem could kill him. However, the same happened to L. Fact his, L didn't need to get so close to Light, and Near wouldn't have done it
One can only wonder what would have happened if he didn't.
He would not have been able to tell Rem who to kill, and Rem would not have time to kill them all.

Actually, Near wouldn't wait for confirmation. Remember, Near made much more gambles than L, because he felt safer behind the scenes. As soon as he saw Higushi do something stupid or say something stupid, Higushi would be done.
L defended and countered until he was caught
Near attacked until he got what he wanted.
And Rem wouldn't know who to kill.

Again this is where you are wrong Near may be more deadly and he may question Higushi that is true as soon as he talks but think would he work with criminals? No, meaning he wouldn't have the female who could bug things therefore he could never bug the group.
